Folk-Club

After many years, it has risen from the ashes in memory of local poet and songwriter Rod Legge. It is hoped that it will become a focal point for local musicians to play, listen and share ‘real’ music in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Although called a ‘Folk’ club, it welcomes all styles of acoustic-based music.

Due to unforeseen circumstances (temporary closure of the Railway), Lymm Folk Club is without a permanent venue. One of the venues the club is now using is the Spread Eagle in Lymm centre, by the Lower Dam.

Manchester Folk Festival is a major new festival of English folk and acoustic roots music. From songs of struggle to joyful reels, from traditional to experimental, the festival will celebrate contemporary folk as it straddles genres, embraces cultures and absorbs new influences. An urban festival. A gathering of all kinds of folk.

Generally, the club alternates between open singers’ nights, feature nights, and guest nights. On singers’ nights, a warm welcome is offered whether or not one wishes to perform. Performers take a short spot (one or two songs, tunes, or poems; a maximum of ten minutes, please). Feature nights follow a similar format to singers’ nights, but the named act takes two 20-minute spots, leaving plenty of time for about eight floor spots. ...
