Described locally as the ‘Matt Molloy’s of Leitrim’, the bar hosts regular sessions on weekends, with spontaneous sets breaking out whenever the right musicians walk through the door.

Musicians and singers are welcome, but dates and venues may change, so it is advisable to confirm in advance to avoid a wasted journey. The name ‘Dabbers’ has several origins among Nantwich residents; one derives from the practice of dabbing leather hides in preparation for shoe-making, which was an important 19th-century town industry.

Dalbeattie Acoustic Sessions are held on the second Thursday of the month (except January) in the Masonic Lodge, Copland Street, Dalbeattie, DG5 4EX. Doors open at 7.30 pm; the session runs from 8.00 pm until 11.00 pm. All styles of song, music, and poetry are welcome.

Set in the hills above Lough Allen, Davitt’s hosts sessions with a crowd that takes the music seriously. The venue is accessible by road from Carrick.

De Barra’s, on the main high street through Clonakilty (Co Cork), two or three hundred yards east of the big spired Catholic Church, hosts a folk club on Monday evenings from 10 to midnight.

A Clonakilty institution since 1975, the club meets on Friday and Saturday nights. Noel Redding played here; the sign is still on the wall. One of the best rooms in Munster.
